Captain Dons Habitat

General Information

Captain Don's Habitat is an excellent resort overlooking the beautiful Caribbean Sea, just over a mile along the coast from Kralendijk, the capital of Bonaire. Although a world famous resort, Captain Dons' is a small resort with just 60 suites and bungalows, all close to the ocean. Captain Don's Habitat was founded in 1976, by renowned underwater environmentalist Captain Don Stewart.  "Habitat" plays an active role in the conservation of Bonaire's natural resources and environment. Captain Don's Habitat built its reputation as a first class dive resort and has developed into a great holiday resort offering activities and amenities to divers and non-divers alike, with kayaks and mountain bikes available on site, plus other facilities like an excellent restaurant, a health spa and a photographic centre. It has a lot to offer those who do not feel the urge to submerge. The resort has a raised beach and a pool. Captain Don's is quiet and relaxed, and one of our most popular resorts. Captain Don's has excellent accommodation, a great dive centre and is very good value for money. We have stayed at Captain Don's a few times - and the resort is very popular with our customers.

Bonaire's 51 excellent shore diving sites are all less than 10 miles away from Captain Don's.
The Captain Don's dive crew makes sure you have 24 hour  / 7 day access to refills.
Unlimited air and easy access to the ocean make diving easy and enjoyable.
Captain Don's Habitat lives up to its motto     -      "The Home of Diving Freedom"

Diving and Snorkelling

On Bonaire most diving is shore diving and snorkellers can enjoy the shore entry sites too. Bonaire is a small island, refills are never far away. 51 shore diving sites means you can dive/snorkel when you like - and pretty much where you like. Our DDD offers are the best possible price for a diving holiday. Bonaire is officially recognised as having the most pristine coral reef and the most species of fish in the Caribbean by the NOAA. Bonaire is famous for its diving and snorkelling - consistently voted "best dive destination" by divers. The Reef Environmental Education Foundation lists 8 of Bonaire's dive sites in their top 10 in terms of species richness in the Caribbean. Click the diving and/or snorkelling links above for more information on the fantastic diving and snorkelling on Bonaire.
Divers and snorkellers can enjoy the ocean a few metres from their room. We work closely with the dive centre at Captain Don's - a PADI 5-Star Gold Palm Resort and a SDI 5 Star Professional Development Center. They offer training and certification for all levels, including beginners and referrals, Rebreather, Tri-Mix and technical courses. Photo Services are also available with the latest in photo and video equipment for sale or hire, instruction and private photo shoots. The Dive Centre also has ocean kayaks for hire. There are secure lockers on the dock for storing gear with 24 hour access. Guided day and night dives are available.

"Unlimited air" means what is says. As much air as you want. Total Diving Freedom has always been the concept at Captain Don's Habitat - 24 hours a day, 365 days a year with no rush or fuss. Following accepted safety practices, you can grab a tank and go....whenever you want ! The reef is around 25 metres out – around 9 metres down. Enjoy the shore diving or join one of the custom built dive boats. Each mooring buoy is limited to 1 boat so you'll have the reef all to yourself. Over 50 world class dives are within a 15 minute boat ride. Snorkellers can join the dive boats to get to those secluded bays. To enjoy this freedom and explore the island, most visitors hire a vehicle. Driving is easy and on Bonaire you are never more than 20 minutes from Captain Don's or 5 minutes from the ocean. We can arrange vehicle hire at a lower rate than you would pay on island. Custom built dive boats are available, of course, comfortable and well equipped for the short ride to the dive sites. Boats take small groups, usually 6 to 8 divers and snorkellers. At most sites there will be just you and few (new) friends. This means boats can get booked up very easily.

Booking your diving, vehicle hire or any other service with us, will save you money and be part of an ATOL protected holiday itinerary. It will guarantee you get what you want when you arrive and avoid disappointment.

Divers are asked for a contribution of $25, and snorkellers $10, to the Bonaire Marine Park for the protection of the reef and the ocean. Payable at your dive centre. Wear your tag with pride. This contribution entitles you to free entrance to the Slagbaai National Park.
